Until I left MN, I assumed most public schools provided at least a decent education. For instance, Raebel is illustrating the astounding vernacular one can learn at Park Center High School. And you thought the 80's comeback was short-lived. I highly doubt the kids at Dalton are learning such impressive words. Raebel - you failed to mention that the reason you felt inclined to name call is that you are jealous that I can ride my bike w/o hitting trees.

Anyway, back to the real purpose for this blog – to keep everyone updated on my whereabouts in South America. For any of you that don’t know, I will be volunteering in Huancayo, Peru. Following my volunteer work I plan to spend some time traveling around South America. Hopefully I’ll be able to update this somewhat frequently, but I’m sure there will be some extended absences when I’m trekking through the jungle, or participating in other more remote activities. But, if you don’t hear from me for months, send out the search party.

As always, my time in MN has been more chaotic than expected. Nonetheless, it’s been great to catch up with friends and family before leaving, and the chaos has prevented me from thinking too much about how much I’ll miss everyone in NYC and MN. Anyone who knows me is well aware of the fact that my packing skills leave much to be desired. My typical method is to procrastinate until late the night before, and then throw as much as I can fit into a bag and hope for the best. I’ve also been known to subject myself to insane sleep deprivation before long, over-seas trips. It’s been a while since I’ve taken any major trips, so I’m hoping I’ve learned a few things in my old age, but that’s probably unlikely.

My flight leaves for Lima early Saturday morning, and I will arrive in Lima around midnight. I’m planning on spending the night in Lima, and then taking a bus to Huancayo on Sunday. I know very little about my accommodations other than that I’ll be staying with a host family. Until then, adios! Keep me updated on everything going on in the US.

Angie,
I hope you arrived safely and are adjusting to the culture changes ;+)
Remember, I am living vicariously through you and your travels -- and your Mom is watching over you.

Bed bugs in NYC??? What's the story? Looks like I need to be better at keeping up with the Times.
